The best seat in the house to view the Big Boy No. 4014 as it passes through Greeley, CO on June 28 and June 30, is from the Rainbow Motel.
The train leaves Denver at 7:10 AM Saturday, June 28 to pass through Greeley headed toward Cheyenne, WY.
The special train is one of 25 Big Boys built for Union Pacific Railroad in the ‘40s. This particular Big Boy was delivered in 1941. Because of the long length of each Big Boy (125 ft.), the trains were articulated to allow them to negotiate turns in the tracks. With 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangements, there are seven of these massive engines on display around the country.
Big Boy No. 4014 was retired in December 1961 and in 2013 was relocated to Cheyenne where it underwent a multi-year restoration, returning to service in 2019 as part of the 150 th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad’s completion.
It has traveled 1,031,205 miles in its 20 years in service.
Call the Rainbow for your reservation to see the Big Boy in action this coming weekend!
