You know you’re in the right place when the most celebrity jazz orchestra stays here too.
The GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA, the most popular and sought after big band in the world, will play in Boulder, CO this June at the Boulder Municipal Airport. When the band members call it for the night, they’ll tuck in at the Rainbow Motel to rest up for the next leg of their summer tour. Tickets are available on Eventbright.com.
Glenn Miller was honored posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in June 2021. His star is located on Hollywood Boulevard and is one of 2400+ celebrity stars cementing his place in the entertainment world.
Born in Iowa in 1904, Miller attended the University of Colorado in Boulder before dropping out to pursue music full time. His Orchestra was the best-selling recording band from 1939 to 1942. When you think of Glenn Miller, the inimitable sounds of “Moonlight Serenade” and Miller’s first gold record “Chattanooga Choo Choo” come to mind.
As his American swing dance band’s popularity soared, he traded in his commercial success to entertain US troops during WWII. On Dec. 15, 1944, Miller boarded a plane in England headed to France. The plane vanished over the English Channel and he and his fellow military musicians were declared lost.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra was revived after WWII in honor of Miller’s legacy and continues to perform today touring internationally. Best of all, the band members chose the iconic Rainbow Motel over all other options in the area for their stay this year. That says something big about the Rainbow Motel!
